What the Validator does

The validators are being installed on the entire network served by AVM/Actv vehicles: navigation, car, tram and people mover.

The validator is a universal ticket scanner, able to read any type of ticket format: electronic tickets, Venezia Unica cards and QR codes, all with a single point of contact identified by this symbol .

In addition, the reading/payment system for physical and virtual contactless bank cards will soon be active. For this reason, certain precautions have to be taken to avoid the accidental purchase of tickets in the early period of the start-up phase.

Some precautions:

  • Only position the card or smart device you wish to use on the base of the Validator.

  • Do not place bags, backpacks or wallets containing more than one card with a microchip (especially bank cards) next to the validator.

With the new validators, the rule is 1 passenger 1 ticket. It is not possible to validate multiple tickets from the same medium, neither from an electronic ticket or from a Venezia Unica card (*), even if access to the vehicles is made using a physical payment card linked to your credit card via the portal at avmspa.it. Each customer must have their own travel ticket.

The EMV Tap to Pay system allows up to a maximum of 5 passengers to travel with a single payment card (either physical or virtual, ensuring to always use only that one)**. In case of a credit card associated with a Venezia Unica card, only one passenger can access the “Carta Venezia” special fare, while the other TAPS will be charged at the regular fare.

(*) The option for multi-ride will be introduced in the near future for Venezia Unica cardholders.

(**) Up to 5 taps within 60 seconds. It will be mandatory to always travel together.

NOTES:

§ If a Venezia Unica card contains more than one travel document (for example, a season ticket and additional standard tickets), the validator automatically identifies the priority option on the Venezia Unica card and validates the season ticket directly.

§ If the Venezia Unica Card contains ticket options that can be activated at the cardholder's discretion (for example, both standard 75-minute and 100-minute tickets loaded on the same Venezia Unica Card), the customer has to select the desired ticket option on the screen. The Venezia Unica card or smart device must be placed on the validator until the ticket option is selected. Once selected, the card or smart device has to be detached from the validator and then placed back on the validator in order to validate the selected ticket.

§ To select the desired contract, click on this yellow icon  PUNTO DI DOMANDA GIALLO, and to browse the contents of the card, click on this green LENTE DI INGRANDIMENTO VERDE icon.

§ To scan the QR code of tickets purchased via the AVM Venezia official APP or with WhatsApp, Alilaguna QRcode tickets, click on the QR code icon located at the top centre of the screen to temporarily disable EMV payments, and then place your smartphone on the base of the Validator with the QR code facing up.

RED DISPLAY + BUZZER SOUND

You did not place the holder against the symbol correctly.  In most cases it will suffice to try again a second time, recommending that you keep the ticket resting on the validator base until the validation or rejection message appears. In the case of rejection with a valid ticket inside the holder, a new ‘tap’ is requested.

Other messages, shown in the red screen, could be due to the expired Venezia Unica card or the absence of available or valid tickets for the network.

EMV testing: activation of the contactless bank card payment will be progressive. Specific tickets and ticket types will be introduced in order to test the system and make it efficient as soon as possible.
